Hi, I’m Sarah!

Born and raised in Virginia, I am a nature-loving, pilates guru who is a mama of 2 boys and a writer at heart.

I’ve also been known to bounce around the education field over the last 20 years: from 3rd grade teacher…to special education aide…to librarian…and now to a full-time writing teacher.

Each of those uniquely awesome jobs has helped me discover new and different ways that children connect with WRITING.

Helping students grow as writers just makes my heart sing. I simply love to see my students smile with pride when they add a few fancy adjectives to spice up a paragraph. Or when they make a sentence POP! with some onomatopoeia. Or when they write freely in their journals with blind disregard for mistakes that might hold them back.

But teaching writing was not always my favorite. In fact, I thought it was the pits.

Teaching writing seemed so complex, and frankly, I was a little intimidated by it! I also didn’t have the time to learn how to teach it the right way. I was too busy juggling math and reading and science and social studies…how was I going to fit in the time to become a writing expert?

As a result, writing fell by the wayside…it got pushed aside and was often forgotten for many days just because I plain didn’t want to teach it. Have you ever felt that way?

Now,…

…things are different.  I love seeing the pride and sparkle in my students’ eyes when they finish a special piece.  I love hearing the sigh of relief when they realize their first tries don’t have to be perfect.  I love feeling a passion and drive to teach my next class.

I want this for you, too.

I’m here to help you learn the lessons that work, change your mindset on teaching writing, and give you the confidence to teach writing without fear. We’re in this together!
